Lithium project “judged” in protest action

For the fifth year, the village of Covas do Barroso, in the municipality of Boticas, hosted the Camp in Defense of Barroso, bringing together more than 250 people from various parts of the country and abroad. One of the highlights of the initiative was a protest on Saturday, which included a performance, a march through the village, and a trial, in which the mining project was in the dock, personified by a doll that the prosecution and the public called a "scoundrel."
In a simulated court session, testimony was heard from the prosecution—residents of Covas and Romaínho, who will be affected by the installation of a lithium mine. On the other side, the "scoundrel's" lawyer spoke, defending the mining project. The ruling was unfavorable to the "defendant," and the dummy representing him ended up in poor condition due to the blows ordered by the judge.

Access to most VTM news is (still) free, but it's not free; journalism costs money and requires investment. This contribution is a way to directly support A Voz de Trás-os-Montes and its journalists. Our counterpart is independent and local journalism, but not only that. It means continuing to inform despite all contingencies; we never stop for a single day.
